Janusz Przybylski

25 May — 7 July 2015

What was the central theme of Janusz Przybylski’s art? The human figure. Even if he painted it in a slightly simplified or deformed fashion. Even if you cannot actually see the person in the painting, just ‘empty clothes’. And ropes. Tangled, twisted, and knotted. They appeared in the last period of his work, which the artist jokingly dubbed ‘lin-art’ (rope-art). He was provocative and brave. He was called the most autonomous figurative painter.
