I. General Provisions
1. The 9th International Stanisław Moniuszko Vocal Competition hereinafter referred to as the “Competition” will take place at the Teatr Wielki – Polish National Opera in Warsaw from 9 to 14 May 2016.
2. The Competition is organized by the Teatr Wielki – Polish National Opera in cooperation with the Moniuszko Music Lovers’ Society.
II. Rules and Conditions of Eligibility
1. The Competition is open to singers of any nationality resident anywhere in the world and born not earlier than: – 9 May 1983 and no later than 9 May 1998.
2. To participate in the Competition candidates must submit an application form in accordance with section 4 below.
3. Applications must be sent by email to moniuszkocompetition@gmail.com
4. The application must include the following documents and a video recording:
a. scan of the Competition Application Form, legibly completed and signed by the Candidate. Sample application form can be found in Appendix no.1 to the Rules and Regulations;
b. video recordings of the Candidate performing, not older than one year, of a total duration of 7-15 minutes, without cuts during the performance of a given piece, submitted electronically (e-mail, WeTransfer , MyAirBridge, YouTube link etc.),
c. scan of an identity document;
d. brief biography for use in the Competition programme book and press publications;
e. a high resolution up-to-date print-quality portrait photograph for use in the Competition programme book and press publications;
f. scan of the signed Statement. Sample Statement can be found in Appendix no. 2 to the Rules and Regulations.
5. Participants must submit the original copy of the Statement referred to in section 4(f) above or sign the Statement in the Competition Office after their arrival.
Participants who fail to do so will not be allowed to enter the Competition.
6. Candidates’ applications will be accepted until 7th of February 2016.
7. The Selection Panel will review the recordings and documents listed in section 4 and decide which Candidates shall be admitted to the Competition.
8. Candidates will be informed about the Selection Panel’s decision no later than on 26 February 2016 by e-mail.

will be automatically admitted to the 1st stage of the Competition, provided that they submit their applications on 18 January 2016 at the latest.
10. The condition of participation in the Competition for selected Candidates is the payment of a registration fee in the amount of EUR 80 or PLN 320 no later than 10 March 2016.

11. With the Candidates notified by the Organizer of the Competition about their admission to the Competition and with the registration fee paid by the Candidates, the Organizer of the Competition and the Candidate enter into agreement whereby the Candidate can participate in the Competition in accordance with these Rules and Regulations and gains the status of the Competition Participant (hereinafter referred to as the “Participant”).
12. The Organizer of the Competition will provide and pay for accommodation for Participants during the following periods:
a. for Participants of the 1st stage of the Competition – between 8-11 May 2016,
b. for all Participants advancing to the 2nd stage of the Competition – between 8-15 May 2016 – till the end of the Competition
13. The Organizer of the Competition will reimburse travel costs incurred by Participants:
a. up to the amount of PLN 400 for travel within the Republic of Poland,
b. up to the amount of EUR 200 for travel from other European countries,
c. up to the amount of EUR 400 for intercontinental travel.
14. Travel costs, as outlined in section 13 above, shall be reimbursed upon receipt of tickets documenting Participant’s travel to the Competition. Tickets must be submitted to the Competition Office.
Tickets paid in EUR will be reimbursed by the Organizer in EUR, and those paid in PLN will be reimbursed in PLN.
15. The Organizer of the Competition will provide accompanists for all Participants.
Participants can provide their own accompanist at their own expense – in such case the Participant should cover the accompanist’s fee, accommodation and travel.
16. The Participant assigns to the Competition Organizer the related rights to the artistic performances during the Competition in accordance with the Statement as referred to in clause II, section 4(f) of the Rules and Regulations.
17. The Organizer of the Competition is not obliged to insure the Participant against accidents and sickness. The Organizer is neither obliged to insure the Participant against luggage loss or damage.
III. Competition Location and Schedule
1. The Schedule of the Competition is as follows:

8 May 2016 Opening of the Competition,
9-10 May 2016 1st stage
11-12 May 2016 2nd stage
14 May 2016 3rd stage, announcement of the results, Awards Ceremony
2. The Competition will take place:
The 1st and the 2nd stage - in the Chamber Hall of the Teatr Wielki – Polish National Opera
The 3rd stage in the Stanisław Moniuszko Auditorium of the Teatr Wielki – Polish National Opera
IV. The Programme of the Competition
1. The Competition consists of the following stages:
a. 1st stage (with piano):
– one opera aria from the 18th or 19th century,
– one Polish song from the 19th or 20th century (sung in Polish or translation)
b. 2nd stage (with piano):
– one opera aria from the 18th or 19th century, not performed in the first stage
– one opera aria from the 20th century
– one song from the world repertoire from the 19th or 20th century
c. 3rd stage (with orchestra):
– one Polish opera or oratorio aria (sung in Polish or translation)
– one opera aria from the world repertoire, not performed in previous stages
2. The programme performed should be selected from the Repertoire List (Appendix no. 3 to the Rules and Regulations), but not exclusively.
Participants may perform works not included in the Repertoire List provided they receive permission from the Director of the Competition.
3. Performance time in the 1st stage – up to 12 minutes
Performance time in 2nd stage – up to 20 minutes.
The Jury has the right to interrupt the Participant’s performance should it exceed the above time limits.
4. All works should be performed from memory.
5. In each stage works may be performed in the Participant’s preferred order which should be indicated in the application form.
6. Polish songs and arias may be sung in Polish or in any language selected by the Participant.
7. Arias must be performed in original key.
8. Songs may be transposed.
9. The audition order shall be established by way of public draw. The order drawn shall be binding in all stages of the Competition.
10. For organizational or programme reasons, the Director of the Competition has the right to make changes in the audition order during a given Competition day. In case of illness confirmed by the medical staff of the Competition, Participants may be given permission to postpone their performances to the end of auditions. New order established in this way shall be binding until the end of the Competition.
11. The auditions during each stage of the Competition will be open to public.
12. All stages of the Competition will be registered on audio or video carriers without any additional commercial gain for the Competition’s Participants.
V. Competition Jury and Awards
1. The composition of the Jury shall be approved by the General Director of the Teatr Wielki – Polish National Opera in Warsaw.
2. The Jury will debate and evaluate Participants in accordance with the Jury’s Statute.
3. The Jury’s debates are confidential.
4. Evaluations and decisions of the Jury are not subject to appeal.
5. Combined points will be made available to public after the Competition has ended.
6. The following prizes shall be awarded by the Jury:
a. Female voice category:
– 1st Prize – EUR 10,000
– 2nd Prize – EUR 8,000
– 3rd Prize – EUR 6,000
b. Male voice category:
– 1st Prize – EUR 10,000
– 2nd Prize – EUR 8,000
– 3rd Prize – EUR 6,000
c. The Maria Fołtyn Prize for the best performance of a Stanisław Moniuszko piece – EUR 5,000
7. The Jury reserves the right to make a different division of prizes from the one specified in section 6 above with the provision that the total amount designated for prizes shall not increase and the amount for each prize shall not be lower than amounts stipulated in these Rules and Regulations.
8. Special prizes might be awarded in the Competition (both monetary and nonmonetary) funded by various institutions and individuals. The list of these prizes and rules for their award procedure will be available to public before the start of the Competition.
9. The Organizer of the Competition shall not be held responsible for failure on the part of the sponsors of the prizes as per section 8 above to fulfil their commitments regarding the said prizes properly and completely.
10. Upon request of the Prize winners of the Competition, monetary award can be converted into Polish currency (PLN) in accordance with the average exchange rate of the Polish National Bank (NBP) valid on the day of the payment.
11. The income tax shall be deducted from the award amount should the Organizer be obliged to pay such a tax pursuant to current laws.

VII. Privacy policy
In accordance with section 24(1) of the Polish Act on Personal Data Protection of 29 August 1997 (Dz.U.2014.1182):
1. Participants’ personal data are stored in a database administered by the Teatr Wielki – Polish National Opera in Warsaw (Plac Teatralny 1, 00-950 Warszawa, Poland).
2. Participants’ personal data will be processed for the purposes of organising the Competition, in particular to carry out relevant financial, statistic, and archiving operations.
3. Participants may access their personal data and alter them.
4. Participants provide the Teatr Wielki – Polish National Opera with their personal data on a voluntary basis.
VII. Final provisions
1. In all matters related to the Competition outside the Jury’s competence, final decisions are made by the Director of the Competition.
2. These Rules and Regulations have been prepared in Polish and English, but any doubts concerning the provisions of these Rules and Regulations shall be resolved on the basis of the Polish text.
3. In matters not governed by these Rules and Regulations the Polish law applies.
4. Any potential conflicts shall be settled by the Polish Court of competent jurisdiction over the seat of the Teatr Wielki – Polish National Opera.
5. Appendices constitute an integral part of these Rules and Regulations.
