OPERA AND THE TANGO. FROM JAN RESZKE TO NINA GRUDZIŃSKA

From 20 Feb. 2021

The show explores the beginnings of the tango in Europe, which was danced for the first time in the reception room of Jan Reszke, aka Jean de Reszke, in Paris. It was the famous opera singer’s wife who opened the first tango school in the French capital. She trained artists of London’s Gaiety Theatre and Warsaw’s Nowości, who later appeared in the popular operetta The Marriage Market. In the ensuing years, many Warsaw opera and operetta singers recorded tangos. The show presents their stories.
