Pastor’s Dracula makes its world debut

The packed auditorium of His Majesty’s Theatre in Perth erupted in enthusiastic ovation after seeing Krzysztof Pastor’s Dracula danced by West Australian Ballet to music by Wojciech Kilar.

The first review has came from Tanya MacNaughton with the Eastern Reporter, who suggests that Pastor can ‘[make] movement magic’ already in her title. She then goes on to observe: ‘Sometimes you can see a work that is so en pointe that you wonder why it took until now to be staged’. Noting that revisiting the Bram Stoker’s gothic classic had been a long-standing desire of WA Ballet’s artistic director Aurelien Scannella, she states that he ‘could not have chosen someone more ideal to fulfil his dream than highly acclaimed Polish choreographer Krzysztof Pastor.’ Concluding, MacNaughton calls Dracula ‘a ballet you will want to sink your teeth in to’. It gives us great pleasure to read about our choreographer’s another success abroad. Congratulations! (pch)
