Ballet evening in three parts
Music: Fryderyk Chopin, Maurice Ravel, Joby Talbot & Jack White III
In 2016 Krzysztof Pastor celebrates his 60th birthday and 30 years as a choreographer. As a ballet dancer, he made a name for himself in Poland, but as a choreographer he originated from what is known as the ‘Dutch school’. He has been working at the Teatr Wielki for eight seasons, running the Polish National Ballet. The company is preparing a special ballet evening as a benefit performance honouring its leader. It highlights the three main programme themes pursued by the company under Pastor’s management: an attachment to tradition, Polish choreographic quests, and artistic ties to contemporary world ballet. You will see the famous Chopiniana with the classic Russian choreography of Michel Fokine (Mikhail Fokin) to music provided by orchestrated versions of the great Polish Romantic composer’s works. Krzysztof Pastor will finally show Warsaw audiences one of his most recent achievements: Bolero to Ravel’s music, which after premiering in Amsterdam is now also part of the repertoire of the opera theatres of Vilnius and Riga. The evening concludes with Chroma by leading British choreographer Wayne McGregor – an iconic piece in the contemporary repertoire of leading ballet companies.
