Moniuszko/Chopin

Song recital

Mariusz Godlewski  baritone

Radosław Kurek  piano

‘Moniuszko wrote songs driven by an incessant creative energy, Chopin wrote them to mark special moments, like entries in his private journal (he did not even intend to publish them). Both would set their songs to poems by their friends, peers, contemporaries. They are mere trifles, compared to the two composers’ well-known pieces and masterpieces. Still, the fact that these off-the-cuff, topical, beautiful little works have survived to our times should be a cause for amazement and joy.’

Professor Małgorzata Komorowska (programme note)
