Founded by Danuta Chmurska in 2010, the Artos Children's Choir draws on the legacy left by its patron, Władysław Koraczewski – once a soloist of the Warsaw Opera, scout instructor, and a great educator of the youth – who encouraged children's natural interactions with music. The choir practices at the Teatr Wielki, while its members are invited to perform children's parts in productions staged by the opera house and enjoy singing before concert audiences. The younger group gathers 5-9-year-olds, while the older one is made up of 10-15-year-olds. Altgether there are more than a hundred children singing in the Artos choir at this point.
Danuta Chmurska is a conductor, artistic director, and president of the Artos Music Society. She holds a degree in Slavic Philology from the University of Warsaw and has completed a post-graduate programme of choir conducting at the Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz. As a child she joined the youth choir led by Władysław Skoraczewski. She then continued her career at the Teatr Wielki in Warsaw becoming assistant to Romuald Miazga. Since 1981 Danuta Chmurska has been a music teacher and expert responsible for preparing children's parts (both solo and chorus ones) for operas, oratorio and cantata concerts, ballet and theatre performances with the Tewatr Wielki.
Paulina Zajkowska holds a degree from the Department of Choir Conducting, Music Education, Church Music, Rhythmics and Dance, Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw. Since 2008 she has been active as conductor, rhythmics teachers, piano répétiteur, accompanist. She specialises in teaching music to the youngest ones. She has been collaborating with the Artos Children's Choir as accompanist and music teacher for a year.
