YUKA EBIHARA BIDS FAREWELL TO THE STAGE

The Japanese star of our ballet company has decided to end her stage career. She will bid farewell to the audience on 22 December, dancing Marguerite Gautier in the final performance of John Neumeier's The Lady of the Camellias.

Jaeeun Jung and Ryota Kitai named Best Dancers of 2024

The 2024 Jan Kiepura Awards were held on 30 September to recognise achievement in music theatre. The Polish National Ballet's artists came out victorius again, with the awards for Best Female Classical Dancer and Best Male Classical Dancer going to Jaeeun Jung and Ryota Kitai, respectively.

Polish National Ballet in the 2024/25 season

This season our ballet company treats its audiences to two new ballet productions: Clug's Peer Gynt set to music by Grieg and Pastor's Prometheus with a score combining Glass and Mozart pieces, while revivals include Neumeier's The Lady of the Camellias danced to Chopin's music.

15 years of the Polish National Ballet

Dracula opens in Helsinki

The Polish National Ballet ballet master and coach battled with a serious disease, yet we were hopeful for his return. His death at 60, on 23 June 2023, has left us deeply saddened. His memory will be a blessing.

Krzysztof Pastor awarded Lithuanian honour

On 16 February 2022 President of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda presented Krzysztof Pastor with the Officer's Cross of the Order for Merits to Lithuania during a ceremony at the Presidential Palace in Vilnius.

Farewell to Liam Scarlett

He was a great talent of British ballet. To us he gave a beautiful choreographic take on Chopin’s Concerto in E minor. Liam Scarlett died on 16 April 2021 in his hometown of Ipswich. He was only 35.

Pastor bids farewell to Vilnius

Krzysztof Pastor ended his collaboration with the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre, where he had been artistic director for the Lithuanian National Ballet for 9 years. He is succeeded by Martynas Rimeikis.

International Dance Day 2020

There has not been an International Dance Day like this since 1982, when this global celebration of dance was created. With the coronavirus lockdown in place, there is no way any events involving a live audience can be held on 29 April and so the celebrations are moving online.

PNB Announces Promotions to Principal Dancer

Starting from January 2020, the Polish National Ballet has four Principal Dancers whose talents have long been shining brightly in the company led by Krzysztof Pastor.

DAGMARA DRYL RETIRES FROM THE STAGE

One of the Polish National Ballet's leading artists, Dagmara Dryl, has made the decision to end her stage career of nearly 20 years. She will bid her farewells to the stage on 29 December dancing Luisa in The Nutcracker for the last time.

Krzysztof Pastor's Dracula staged by the West Australian Ballet has just been presented with the Performing Arts WE Award for Best New Work.

10 Years of the Polish National Ballet

On 29 April 2009 the Warsaw ballet company became the Polish National Ballet, an autonomous artistic entity within the Teatr Wielki.

The Polish National Ballet will perform in Montreal, Canada at the turn of February and March 2019. The company will treat the three thousand-strong audience of the Place des Arts to a ten-date run of Krzysztof Pastor's take on Swan Lake.

FELIKS MALINOWSKI DIED IN PARIS

Feliks Malinowski, our 1960s danseur noble, died on 30 August 2018 in Paris at the age of 82. He debuted on the Warsaw stage in 1959 and was Teatr Wielki's first soloist from 1966 to 1970.

Robert Bondara wins a prize in Bordeaux

Robert Bondara has won one of the three top prizes at the second edition of the Classical and Neoclassical Young Choreographers' Competition in Bordeaux. 

We'll be dancing in Brno

The Polish National Ballet has received an invitation to dance at Dance Brno 100 on 26 May. The festival is one of the highlights of the celebrations marking the 100th anniversary of Czech independence.

The Lady of the Camellias to open on 20 April 2018

John Neumeier's choreographic masterpiece after the novel by Alexandre Dumas, fils, set to a wide selection of Fryderyk Chopin's music enters the repertoire of the Polish National Ballet. Nine performances are scheduled this season in Warsaw.

PASTOR + KILAR = DRACULA

Krzysztof Pastor is in Australia for rehearsals for his new ballet, Dracula. Set to a medley of Wojciech Kilar's pieces, the choreography will be given its debut by West Australian Ballet on 6 September in Perth.

Melissa Abel debuts as Clara

Our young American-born ballerina Melissa Abel has successfully made her debut as Clara in The Nutcracker alongside Maksim Woitiul and Patryk Walczak.

Personnel changes

The beginning of the 2017/18 season brings some personnel changes in the Polish National Ballet. We have seen some promotions, farewells, and new arrivals.

Bolero at the Wawel Castle

The Polish National Ballet will conclude the 2016/17 season on 29 June with a performance of Krzysztof Pastor’s Bolero at the courtyard of the Wawel Royal Castle as part of the 21st Kraków Opera Summer Festival.

Three years after its triumphant opening in Chicago, the Joffrey Ballet is taking Krzysztof Pastor’s Romeo and Juliet to New York’s David H. Koch Theatre at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts.

Krzysztof Pastor's successful year 2016

For Krzysztof Pastor the year 2016 was abundant in successes. The director of the Polish National Ballet was honoured with the ZAIKS Authors Association Award for his choreographic achievements and saw many of his works being presented at home and abroad.

PNB to stage Chopiniana in autumn

Michel Fokine's choreographic gem inspired by Fryderyk Chopin music will soon enter the repertoire of the Polish National Ballet. The new production is being devised by Russian ballet masters Alexei Fadeyechev and Tatyana Rastorgueva.

The Polish National Ballet welcomes six new dancers, coming from Giblartar, Japan, Poland, Russia, and the USA. Three of the company's existing members have been promoted to higher ranks.

New Ballet Based on Gombrowicz

The Polish National Ballet will present its latest premiere on 14 February 2015. Titled Pupa (Bottom), it is a collaboration of composer Stanisław Syrewicz, his daughter Klara the librettist, and young choreographer Anna Hop, who have drawn inspiration from Ferdydurke by Witold Gombrowicz.

PNB at Belweder
