Conductor and chorus master: Anna Bednarska
Alla Polacca is a children’s choir affiliated with the Teatr Wielki ‒ Polish National Opera. It was founded by Sabina Włodarska, who spent the following few decades working with children and young people. In June 2014 she was succeeded by Anna Bednarska as the choir master and director. In 2015 Ms Bednarska established the Alla Polacca Nova Foundation whose aim is to manage the choir and provide musical education to children and young people. The choir brings together around a hundred music enthusiasts who perform divided into a few age groups, drawing ultimate joy from the joint music-making. Helping them are the choir’s pedagogues: Alicja Białkowska and Iwona Tałałaj.
Alla Polacca singers have appeared in more than a dozen opera productions staged at the Teatr Wielki, including Boris Godunov, The Queen of Spades, Bramy raju, Carmen, La bohème, Tosca, Turandot, The Little Sweep, Der Rosenkavalier, Widma, O królewnie co spać nie chciała, Oresteia, and Pan Marimba. The latter – a children’s opera composed by Marta Ptaszyńska to a libretto by Agnieszka Osiecka – was commissioned by the Polish National Opera specifically for Alla Polacca.
The choir has made a range of archival recordings of Polish contemporary music for Polish Radio and Television. It has released CDs of Pan Marimba and O królewnie co spać nie chciała, a musical fairy tale by excellent Polish composer Andrzej Hundziak. The youngest group has recorded many children’s songs written by contemporary Polish composers. Recently, the choir has recorded a song for the audiobook Bajkowy Efekt Domina released by the Kulczyk Foundation and a few pieces for Majka Jeżowska’s new symphony album, Majka Jeżowska Symfonicznie.
Alla Polacca has toured Belgium, the Netherlands, France, Germany, Switzerland, and Sicily, performing music from different epochs. Its repertoire includes pieces sung a cappella or with the accompaniment of chamber orchestra, harp, piano, and organs. For many years, it has participated in numerous national and international competitions, winning top laurels. The ensemble participates in numerous educational concerts and musical matinees for children held at the Redutowe Rooms of the Teatr Wielki.
