This show by Krzysztof Pastor is the fruit of cooperation of the Polish National Ballet with Het Nationale Ballet in Amsterdam. It premiered there in 2014, and last season it was performed by our company. Shakespeare’s ambiguous masterpiece was for Pastor only a source of inspiration. The choreographer uses themes and characters from the play, but he focuses mainly on presenting the magic hidden in the drama. “It has no unequivocal ending, or conclusion”, he believes. “Perhaps Shakespeare deliberately left us here a large space for interpretation. In this sense the play is very contemporary, it does not limit the viewer to passive participation – it requires involvement, it is an intellectual challenge”. The choreographer invited the Iranian artists Shirin Neshat and Shoja Azari to a common search for hidden meanings in The Tempest. They belong to visual artists considered to be the greatest of our time. This is perhaps the most mysterious of our choreographer’s productions.
