Batsheva Dance Company
Ohad Naharin
A snaking spine. A body boiling like a pan of spaghetti. These are just two out of many images that incessant movement brings to mind. In Gaga the imagination and the body work to attain self-awareness. The language movement was developed by Ohad Naharin, Israeli choreographer, guru, and a legend in his lifetime. A real revolutionary. Since 1990 he has been the artistic director of the Batsheva Dance Company, whose unique style is a combination of differently-paced yet highly precise movements. They trigger a dynamic awareness of the body, time and space. They convey unimaginable energy. Silence followed by an explosion.
This year’s Days of Dance festival will welcome the Batsheva Dance Company with their latest choreography. In Venezuela Naharin and the dancers explore dialogue as well as conflict between movement and the content it represents. Many questions and a few answers arise about the choices the choreographer has. Naharin attempts to include the audience in this freedom of choice along with its endless scope of possibilities, while making a critical comment about all of us.
