Mazowsze for Independent Poland
70 years of the Mazowsze Folk Song And Dance Ensemble
With this special concert the Mazowsze Folk Song and Dance Ensemble commemorates the centenary of Poland’s regaining of independence after 123 years of foreign rule and launches the celebrations of the 70th anniversary of the ensemble’s foundation. The event will feature the most interesting choreographies from Mazowsze’s repertoire devised by Elwira Kamińska, Eugeniusz Papliński and Witold Zapała, the ensemble’s most popular songs, and impressive costumes representing traditional garments worn in twenty Polish ethnographic regions. Emerging from the whirlwind of colours will be Poland’s national dances: the polonaise, krakowiak, oberek, mazur and kujawiak, regional dances and characteristic ditties. We will also hear ones about the developments of 1918 when Poland regained its independence and Mazowsze’s greatest hits written by Tadeusz Sygietyński with lyrics by Mira Zimińska-Sygietyńska.
