The tenth edition of the largest Polish vocal competition falls on the Moniuszko Year – the bicentenary of the composer’s birth. The competition will have a unique setting this year and will become one of the most important international events of this jubilee. Established in 1992 by Maria Fołtyn, a great promoter of Stanisław Moniuszko’s music, today it occupies a high position in the catalogue of world-famous vocal competitions, each time attracting talented young singers from dozens of countries to Warsaw. Suffice to say that among the winners of previous editions are such artists as Aleksandra Kurzak and Mariusz Kwiecień. The main laureates from 2015 include Salome Jicia, Andrzej Filończyk, Jakub Józef Orliński and Krzysztof Bączyk, who are internationally appreciated artists of the younger generation. At the same time, from its very beginning, the Competition has been something more than just a contest at a high artistic level, playing an important role in the promotion of Polish vocal literature. In May 2019 we expect around eighty young singers to flock to the Polish National Opera to present their skills in front of a judging panel composed of eminent artists, teachers and representatives of musical institutions from around the world. We also encourage viewing the Competition on the vod.teatrwielki.pl platform. We might well witness the birth of new stars.
