Premiere Preludes:
Symphonic Paderewski
Concerts of music by composers whose opera open at Teatr Wielki in the 2018/19 season.
Held on the eve of the opening of Manru, the opera by Ignacy Jan Paderewski, the concert presents the composer's most beautiful pieces for piano and orchestra as well as his Overture for Symphony Orchestra.
You will hear the Orchestra of the Polish National Opera under Grzegorz Nowak accompanying one of the most prominent contemporary classical pianists and a valued Paderewski interpreter, Jonathan Plowright.
It is a rare opportunity to listen to Mr Plowright in Poland. The concert is ever more special because of the fact that the repertoire is so close to his heart and the heart of the Polish audience.
Ignacy Jan Paderewski was a major figure of the turn of the 19th and 20th century, a true patriot, and the only Polish composer whose opera has ever been staged at the Metropolitan Opera in NYC. This concert is a great chance to acquaint yourself with his oeuvre, which is now being – rightfully – rediscovered.
Whether you want a wider perspective on Ignacy Jan Paderewski's work or have always held his piano pieces in high esteem, the concert should not be missed.
Premiere Preludes is series of concerts held on the eve of each opera opening in the Moniuszko Auditorium throughout the season. Offering a taste of less known works of the composer of the opera, sometimes in a novel context, they serve as an excellent introduction to the premiere at hand.
The Preludes attract music lovers and opera enthusiasts seeking a beautiful music experience and a better understanding of pieces written for the stage. Featuring both chamber and symphonic works, and characteristic for their unique atmosphere, Preludes draw on the opera house's significant concert tradition, providing a wider perspective on Teatr Wielki's core programme.
