Śląsk Song and Dance Ensemble
Gala concert marking 65 years of the Śląsk Song and Dance Ensemble
The concert is a showcase of the beauty of Polish culture in the full glory of its regional heritage, performed by a lineup of over a hundred artists of the ensemble: its chorus, ballet company, and orchestra. The programme includes folk songs and dances characteristic for various Polish regions and choreographies of Polish national dances. You will mostly hear music composed or arranged by Stanisław Hadyna and see choreographies by Elwira Kamińska, the two names behind the ensemble's enoromous success. The programme includes Hadyna's hit tunes, such as Karolinka, Szła dzieweczka, or Gąska, and arrangements of such dances as Trojak, Taniec chustkowy, Kujawiak-Oberek, or Mazur. You will also be treated to works composed by Wojciech Kilar, who was associated with the ensemble in the 1970s and wrote over thirty pieces inspired by folk music that entered the ensemble's repertoire for good. Special highlights will include Polonez from Andrzej Wajda's film Pan Tadeusz and Kujawiaki głuszyńskie choreographed by Hanna Chojnacka. Over the 65 years of its existence, the ensemble has collaborated with many exceptional artists and choreographers. One of them has been Juraj Kubánka, Slovak dancer, choreographer, and director. On 15 September, the audience will have a change to see two of his wonderful choreographies: Polka opolska and the spectacular Harnaś i zbójnicy. The concert will also feature the ensemble's iconic acts and audience favourites: Tańce podhalańskie and Krakowiak, which will close the show. Śląsk's interpretations of Polish songs and stylized dances in costume have been promoting Polish heritage all over the world for 65 years now, making the ensemble worthy of the title of an ambassador of Polish culture.
