Considered one of the most important American composers, 'the king of jazz', and hit songwriter, Gershwin successfully wrote both classical and popular works, such as An American in Paris, Rhapsody in Blue or his only opera, Porgy and Bess, just to mention a few. These evergreen pieces, still widely celebrated not only in America, were the subject-matter of the first Opera Academy workshop this season. The members worked on Gershwin song, arias, and ensembles under the watchful eye of Tomasz Konieczny and Whitney Reader.
