Stanisław Moniuszko is mostly associated with vocal music, and rightly so. The impressive number of songs he wrote and the significance of his operas speak for themselves. The bicentenary of his birth is, however, an excellent opportunity to remind ourselves of the less known parts of his oeuvre, namely sacred and chamber music. This Taking It Personally meeting focuses on the latter. it will welcome Urszula Kryger, who has visited the Moniuszko Lounge in the past, along with two members of the Wrocław-based Lutosławski Quartet, Roksana Kwaśnikowska and Marcin Markowicz as they prepare to give a joint concert on 17 November at the Teatr Wielki's Redutowe Rooms in the Know Ye This Land series. The programme includes both of Moniuszko's string quartets and songs by two German romantic composers, Louis Spohr and Felix Mendelssohn for voice and small chamber ensemble.

Meticulously selected by Urszula Kryger, the programme will serve as a starting point for the discussion about Moniuszko the composer of chamber pieces other than songs for voice and piano. The members of the Lutosławski Quartet will also reveal what inspires them in the two string quartets of the 'father of Polish opera'. The artists will also take questions from the audience.

Free admission. Please note that the number of places is limited (60 seats).
