Sinfonia Varsovia
Concert
Due to serious Covid-19 concerns, and to ensure the safety of the musicians and staff of Sinfonia Varsovia and the Polish National Opera, together with Sinfonia Varsovia we have made the difficult but necessary decision to cancel the orchestra's birthday concert on 12 April which was to be live streamed online and broadcast on Polish Radio 2.
We are doing our utmost for the concert to be held at a later date.
Janusz Marynowski
Director, Sinfonia Varsovia
Waldemar Dąbrowski
Director, Polish National Opera, Teatr Wielki
In 2021, Sinfonia Varsovia turns 37 and traditionally celebrates its jubilee at Teatr Wielki, this time under special circumstances, as its artistic director and great Maestro, Krzysztof Penderecki, passed away. In the repertoire of the Warsaw ensemble we will find many works by Penderecki, such as Stabat Mater, De Profundis or the Seven Gates of Jerusalem. Sinfonia Varsovia also participated in the world premiere of Penderecki’s A Sea of Dreams Did Breathe on Me..., written in occasion of Chopin Year’s end (2011). However, the orchestra’s repertoire is much broader, including works spanning from 18th-century to contemporary music. The Warsaw-based ensemble also participates in cyclical events: Crazy Music Days or ‘Chopin and His Europe’ Festival. As further encouragement, let us recall the words of the brilliant violinist Yehudi Menuhin: ‘working with no other orchestra has given me as much satisfaction as my work as a soloist and conductor, with the Sinfonia Varsovia orchestra’.
