Touching Theatre
Series of meetings for people with visual impairment
A series of meetings for persons with visual impairment and their companions that aim to introduce them to the history and the everyday operations of the Polish National Opera with the aid of visual arts and performance art. The meetings are designed by the Theatre Museum staff and rely on the museum's collections.
The starting point for each meeting is a bust of a prominent performer or composer associated with the opera house, including Wojciech Bogusławski, Helena Modrzejewska, Irena Solska, Stanisław Wyspiański, Stanisław Moniuszko, or Jan Kiepura, offering the participants a chance to get to know how the people looked like and learn about the different sculpting techniques and the work of recognised Polish sculptors: Teodor Rygier, Olga Niewska, Konstanty Laszczka, Apolinary Głowiński, Paweł Filippi, Wiktoria Czechowska-Antoniewska.
Starting off with the biographies of the leading figures of the artistic scene, the hosts will spin stories about the history of the theatre, theatrical genres, and the private life of theatre people in the olden days. The practical part will be a chance to experience stagework first-hand and peek behind the scenes of the theatre.
