What comes to mind when trying to define Astor Piazzola's tangos is the ability to subtly stir the most intimate spheres of human emotion and music that satisfies the most discerning listeners. Astor Piazzolla is now an icon, a composer who permanently inscribed the Argentine tango in the canon of world music. Although he was ahead of his time, he never imagined in his wildest dreams what fame the following decades would bring him.

As he himself said, in his works 'devils [mix] with angels,' adding that you need to try everything in life to give it meaning and flavour. Listening to his music everyone will find something for themselves. The emotions they abound with – love, betrayal, despair, longing, joy, sadness, peace and nostalgia – always encourage reflection.

The programme includes the most beautiful tangos – Adios Nonino, Libertango, Oblivion – as well as fragments of Piazzolla's operita Maria de Buenos Aires performed by Duo Granat & Kreda in arrangements for two pianos by Adrian Kreda, a native of Buenos Aires. A presentation by a pair of dancers who honed their skills in Buenos Aires complements the music.

Come to the concert and savour the atmosphere and rhythm of the Argentine tango.
