“Today, when after all these years we look upon the output of this artist, we have in mind mainly his voice recognizable after the first syllable and familiar face – piercing eyes, sadness mixed with irony or with a pale smile – and we think in awe of his titanic work, which he put into construction of nearly three hundred creations: theater, film, television, and radio ones. But that’s not all. He was also director, teacher in the acting school, and social activist: taking the floor, leading, even becoming a Member of Parliament.
And yet it all seems not to be the most important. Not the gigantic effort, not the brilliant talent and not the social sensitivity (without which, of course, there would be nothing to talk about), but something that is superior to these attributes: namely, belief in the ideal and the upper world as well as a sense of mission to remind of them – to bring closer their light in the darkness of “miserable time”.
