Sounds of Japan: koto and shō
Japanese instrument workshops for children aged 7–12
Sounds of Japan: koto and shō is a special edition of our children's workshops held in conjunction with the performance Butterfly in the Land of Shadows. Participants will learn about two traditional Japanese instruments: the stringed koto and the bamboo wind instrument shō. The children will listen their characteristic sounds and learn about the contexts in which they are used in Japan. Under the guidance of the instructors, the participants will create sound images inspired by the world of opera. The workshops develop musical sensitivity and open the youngest audiences to the culture of the Far East.
