Romeo and Juliet: emotions, conflict and relationships in non-verbal theatre
Mime and physical theatre workshop for adults
Join us for a two-hour workshop on mime and physical theatre for adults, inspired by the story of Romeo and Juliet, a tale of love, passion, conflict, and the tragic consequences of human choices.
During the workshop, the participants will explore this classic story through the body, movement, rhythm, tension and stage dynamics, discovering just how much can be expressed without words. The starting point for their explorations will be the universal experiences found in the play: attraction and repulsion, the desire for closeness, rebellion, fear, and the tension between the individual and their surroundings.
The session is led by Bartłomiej Ostapczuk, an actor, mime artist, and director of visual theatre productions. The workshops draw on the techniques of contemporary mime and physical theatre. The practice will also incorporate elements of comedy produced by the contrasting situations, the rhythm of the performance, and the relationships between the characters.
The classes are practical in nature and open to both beginners and individuals with stage movement or theatre.
The programme includes:
– elements of classical mime and non-verbal art
– movement composition and acting exercises
– stage improvisation
– working on emotions and stage presence
– building relationships and tension without the use of text.
The workshop develops body awareness, expression, mindfulness, and the ability to convey meaning through gesture, rhythm, and stage presence.
