Born in Mexico, Alejandro Del Ángel studied at the National Conservatory of Music of Mexico and took part in the 20th edition of the opera studio Taller de Perfeccionamiento Operistico run by the Sociedad Internacional de Valores del Arte Mexicano (SIVAM) and EOBA of the Opera National de Mexico. He studied with teachers such as Joan Dornemann, Marioara Trifan, Denise Massé, Vlad Iftinca, Yelena Kurdina, Teresa Rodríguez, Adrian Kelly, Thomas Barthel, and Eytan Pessen. He has also taken master classes with personalities such as Javier Camarena, Arturo Chacón, Francisco Araiza, Piotr Beczała, and Neil Schicoff.
As a soloist he has participated in different concerts, festivals, productions, and opera galas in different theaters and concert halls in Mexico, the USA, Colombia, Switzerland ,and Spain, and worked with conductors such as Nicola Luisotti, Donato Renzetti, Simone Young, Srba Dinic, Marcus Poschner, and Adrian Kelly. He has shared the stage with singers such as George Petean, Ildar Abdrazakov, Benjamin Bernheim, or Quinn Kelsey. In 2023, at the invitation of the mezzo-soprano Cecilia Bartoli, he will cover Jonas Kaufmann in Andrea Chenier and Javier Camarena in La Traviata at Monte Carlo’s opera.
He is a prize-winner of several national and international competitions. He won first prize at the Fanny Anitua National Opera Contest in Durango, Mexico; second prize and the Giovanni Consiglio Prize for best tenor at the 19th International Festival of Lyric Singing in Peru; third prize at the 35th Carlo Morelli National Singing Competition at the Palacio de Bellas Artes, Mexico; audience prize at the 15th Nuevas voces ciudad de Sevilla competition at the Teatro de la Maestranza in Seville; and first prize at the 11th International Singing Competition Sinaloa. He reached the quarter finals of Plácido Domingo's Operalia in Lisbon in 2018 and was the district winner in the Kansas Metropolitan Opera Council Auditions in 2021. In 2022 he won third prize in the International Stanisław Moniuszko Vocal Competition in Warsaw. He is currently a member of the IOS Internationales Opernstudio Zúrich (2021/2022 and 2022/2023).
