Born in Iran, in 1992 he set up the Amir Hosseinpour Dance Company, whose repertoire included Fantasie Nocturne (Turtle Key Arts Centre, London) and Is That All There Is (Almeida Theatre, London and La MaMa, New York). He has created choreography for Echnaton (Opera Vlaanderen), Guillaume Tell (Welsh National Opera), L'enfant et les sortilèges (Opéra National de Paris), the world premiere of Spüren der Verirrten (Linz), Cinderella (Landestheater Niederbayern), Les Toyens, La Juive, Castor et Pollux, Tannhäuser, The Twilight of the Gods, Alice in Wonderland, Alceste (De Nederlandse Opera), Orlando Paladino, Socrates (Innsbruck/Berlin), Maria de Buenos Aires (Teatro Nacional de São Carlos, Lisbon), Die Florentiner Intermedien (Saarbrücken), La Juive (Opéra de Paris), Tannhäuser (Baden Baden), Zoroastre (Opéra Comique and Drottningholm), Giulio Cesare (Bayerische Staatsoper), Les Troyens (La Scala), The Barber of Seville (Royal Opera House), The Midsummer Marriage (Monachium), The Flying Dutchman (Opéra de Lille), Petrushka (Bayerisches Staatsballett), The Golden Cockerel (Bregenzer Festspiele), and for the following TV productions: Classic Widows (South Bank Show, LWT), Trouble In Tahiti (BBC, winner of the 2002 Vienna TV Award), and La poussière de l’amour (ARTE, Germany).
He has directed La Traviata (Landestheater Niederbayern) and Hôtel de Pékin (Nationale Reisopera). Together with Nigel Lowery he co-directed and choreographed Platée (De Nederlandse Opera), The Soldier's Tale (Barcelona Festival), Italian Girl in Algiers (Berlin Staatsoper), L'enfant et les sortilèges (Opera North), Rinaldo (Opéra Montpellier/Innsbruck/Berlin Staatsoper), Orfeo ed Euridice (Bayerische Staatsoper), and Les Paladins (Theater Basel).
