Polish coloratura soprano Ewa Majcherczyk is a graduate of the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice and the Royal Academy of Music in Copenhagen, where she studied under the tutelage of Professor Tonny Landy and pianist Ulrich Staerk. She was a two-time scholarship holder of L.T.L. Opera Studio, and a laureate of various competitions, the prizes including the first prize at the 3rd Simone Alaimo International Vocal Competition Il Bel Canto nella Valle dei Templi in Agrigento. She was a finalist of the 8th International Stanisław Moniuszko Vocal Competition in Warsaw.
Ms Majcherczyk made her operatic debut as Adina in Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore at the Lower Silesia Philharmonic in Jelenia Góra in 2009. In the same year she sang Hanna in Moniuszko’s The Haunted Manor at the Silesian Opera in Bytom. Subsequently, she has performed at the Teatr Wielki – Polish National Opera, Teatro del Giglio in Lucca, Teatro Verdi in Pisa, Teatro Goldoni in Livorno, Teatro Comunale in Ravenna, Poznań Opera House, Teatro Donizetti in Bergamo, Teatro Communale di Mantova, Teatro Coccia in Novara, Anhaltishes Theater Dessau, Teatro Politeama in Palermo with Orchestra Sinfonica Siciliana, Opera na Zamku in Szczecin, Grand Theatre in Łódź, Teatro Luigi Pirandello in Agrigento, Baltic Opera, Wrocław Opera, Podlasie Opera.
Ms Majcherczyk has successfully taken on the roles of Juliette in Gounod’s Romeo et Juliette, Cunegounde in Bernstein’s Candide, Lucia in Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor, Violetta Valery in Verdi’s La Traviata, Micaela in Bizet’s Carmen, Edwige in Offenbach’s Robinson Crusoe, La Primadonna in Donizetti’s Viva La Mamma, Gilda in Verdi’s Rigoletto, Musetta in Puccini’s La Bohème, Adina in Donizetti’s L'elisir d'amore, Rosina in Rossini’s The Barber of Seville, Adele in Strauss’s The Bat, Zerlina in Mozart’s Don Giovanni, First Lady and Papagena in Mozart’s The Magic Flute, Hanna in Moniuszko’s The Hanuted Manor, Zuzia in Moniuszko’s Verbum Nobile, Zofia in Moniuszko’s Halka, Anne Frank in Frid’s The Diary of Anne Frank, Bolesław in Penderecki’s Ubu Rex, Mrs P. in Nyman’s The man who mistook his wife for a hat.
She has worked with the following conductors: Andriy Yurkevych, Bassem Akiki, Francesco Bottigliero, Ruben Silva, Elio Boncompagni, Jari Hämäläinen, Federico Maria Sardelli, Francesco Bonnin, Tadeusz Kozłowski, Pawel Kotla, Grzegorz Berniak, Jurek Dybał, Ewa Michnik, Tadeusz Serafin, Andrzej Knap, and performed in productions by directors such as Barrie Kosky, Michał Znaniecki, Ran Arthur Brown, Lech Majewski, Rebekah Rota, Bruno Berger-Gorski, Saverio Marconi, Marco Gandini, Simone Alaimo, Eleonora Paterniti, Maria Sartova, Beata Redo-Dobber, Martin Otava, Wiesław Ochman, and Waldemar Zawodziński.
The soprano has sung in concert in Germany, Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Spain, Lithuania, and Slovakia. In 2016 she recorded an album titled Cancion featuring her interpretations of F. Bottigliero’s pieces (DUX).
