Born in 1980 in Moldova, Iurie Maimescu studied at the Academy of Music, Theatre and Fine Arts (canto specialisation) in Chisinau (1999–2004), Stefan Neaga College of Music (choral conducting and piano specialisation) in Chisinau (1994–1998) and Valeriu Poleakov School of Arts (accordion specialisation) in Chisinau (1988–1994). Since 2004 he has been a soloist with the National Opera and Ballet Theatre Maria Bieșu, Chisinau.
His repertoire includes the following roles: Dottore Grenvil, Barone Douphol, Marchese d'Obigny in Verdi's La Traviata; Ramfis, The King of Egypt in Verdi's Aida; Zaccaria in Verdi's Nabucco; Sparafucile, Count Monterone, Count Ceprano, Marullo in Verdi's Rigoletto; Leporello, Masetto, Il Commendatore in Mozart's Don Giovanni; Sarastro in Mozart's Die Zauberflote; Figaro, Bartolo, Count in Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro; Dr Dulcamara in Donizetti's L'elisir d'amore; Don Basilio, Doctor Bartolo in Rossini's Il barbiere di Siviglia; King René in Tchaikovsky's Yolanta; Prince Gremin in Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin; Zuniga, Moralès, Escamillo in Bizet's Carmen; Cesare Angelotti, A Sacristan, Sciarrone in Puccini's Tosca; Colline, Benoît, Alcindoro in Puccini's La bohème; Timur in Puccini Turandot.
His prizes and accolades include: Second Prize at the Masters of Lyric Art – Petre Stefanescu International Contest for Opera Singers in Goanga (2011); Excelence Prize at the Hariclea Darclée International Competition in Braila, Romania (2010, 2012); First Prize at the Eugenia Moldoveanu International Competition in Romania (2002, 2003), Third Prize and Bronze Medal in the category "Opera Performance Art" at the Antonina Nezhdanova International Vocal Competition in Ukraine (2010), Second Prize at the Hariclea Darclée International Competition in Romania (2009), excellence diploma at the Maria Biesu International Opera and Ballet Festival (2013), diploma at the Sloveaskii Iarmorok International Competition in Donetsk (2004), diploma at the A. Stârcea National Competition in Chisinau (2004), excellence diploma at the Maria Biesu International Opera and Ballet Festival (2011), diploma at the International Valentin Teodorian Singing Competition Masters of Lyrical Art in Romania (2012), diploma at the International Martisor Music Festival (2010), Second Prize at the International Maria Biesu Opera and Ballet Festival (2012).
He is the holder of the CEE Musiktheatre Scholarship (Vienna).
