Janusz Chojecki graduated from the Faculty of Mechanics and Technology, Warsaw University of Technology. He has been working with the Teatr Wielki for 40 years now. He began in 1974 as the head of the mechanical section, and then was promoted to deputy head of stage, a function he performed from 1979 to 1994. In 1995 he became the head of stage, and since 1998 has been supervising all the technical aspects of the opera house's operations as the technical director. He is responsible for the technical development of all the theatre's operas, ballets, and concerts. He directly supervises the production, conservation, and storing of scenery, props, costumes, make-up, and accessories used on stage, and makes sure that all the rehearsals, premieres, and regular performances held at he opera house or during the company's tours at home and abroad happen without any technical failures. He is also responsible for modernisations, renovations, and conservation of stage machinery and other installations and devices. He is considered one of Poland's top experts in stagecraft.
