Patrice Caurier (pictured left) was born in Paris. Together with Moshe Leiser he won the Prix de la Critique for Janáček's Jenůfa, a BAFTA for Tchaikovsky's Mazeppa, the 2013 Best New Production Award at the International Opera Awards for Norma, and the Cannes Film Festival FIPA d'Or award for the film L'Enfant et les sotigèges. He began his collaboration with Leiser in 1983 with a production of A Midsummer Night's Dream for Opéra de Lyon. Productions since include: Rossini's La Cenerentola, Il turco in Italia, Il barbiere di Siviglia, Thomas's Hamlet, Puccini's Madame Butterfly, Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel, Donizetti's Maria Stuarda (Royal Opera House), Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen, Verdi's Don Carlos, R. Strauss's Der Rosenkavalier, Debussy's Pelléas et Mélisande, Berg's Wozzeck (Geneva), Shostakovich's The Nose, Massenet's Werther (Opéra de Lausanne), Hamlet (Metropolitan Opera, New York), the world premiere of Dalbavie's Gesualdo (Zurich), Prokofiev's Les Fiançailles au couvent, Dukas's Ariane et Barbe-bleue, Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor, Ravel's L'Enfant et les sortilèges (Opéra de Lyon), Gluck's Iphigénie en Tauride, Bizet's Carmen, Paer's Leonora, Tchaikovsky's Mazeppa (Welsh National Opera), Mozart's The Magic Flute (Wiener Staatsoper), Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin (Mariinsky Theatre), Händel's Giulo Cesare, Bellini's Norma, Rossini's Otello (Salzburger Festspiele), Weill's Aufstieg und Fall der Stadt Mahagonny (Spoleto Festival). They have also designed many productions for the Théâtre des Champs Elysées, including Mozart's La clemenza di Tito, Rossini's Armida, and Poulenc's Dialogues des Carmélites, and for Angers-Nantes Opéra, including Falstaff and Jenůfa.
