Born 1971, he studied composition under professor Włodzimierz Kotoński at the Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw. At the age of 22 he made his Warsaw Autumn Festival debut with the work La Strada". In 1995 his composition 3 for 13, commissioned by Polish Radio, placed first in the under 30 category at the UNESCO International Composers Rostrum in Paris. In 1996 his composition Epifora, commissioned by the Experimental Studio of Polish Radio, took First Prize in the category of young composers at the 4th UNESCO International Rostrum of Electroacoustic Music in Amsterdam. It also won one of the four nominations in the general category. In January 2000 he won the Paszport Polityki Award. Later in the month 3 for 13 was presented at the Midem Classique in Cannes. In 2008 he was the first recipient of the OPUS Public Media Award. In 2011 he was honoured with the Knight's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta. In 2012 he was awarded the prestigious Prix for Musique Sacem France for the soundtrack for J. Skolimowski’s Essential Kiling. Paweł Mykietyn founded and subsequently played the clarinet in the contemporary music ensemble Nonstrom. Since 1996 he has composed music for most of Krzysztof Warlikowski's productions. Since 2008 he has been the musical director at Nowy Teatr in Warsaw. He is the author of music for many feature films for which he was awarded prizes among others at the Gdynia Film Festival. His opera The Magic Mountain after Thomas Mann premiered in 2015.
