
Bulgarian mezzosoprano Svetlina Stoyanova was born in Sofia. She was awarded First Prize in the Neue Stimmen International Singing Competition in 2017 and Third Prize in Le Grand Prix de l’Opera. Following her competition success, Svetlina Stoyanova was invited by the Opéra de Nice Côte d’Azur and the Anthéa Theatre to perform Cherubino in Le nozze di Figaro and the leading role of Rosina in Il barbiere di Siviglia for the Bregenz Festival.
Stoyanova joined the Vienna State Opera as a soloist for the 2018/19 and the 2019/20 seasons. She made her house debut as Dryade (Ariadne auf Naxos) and also performed the roles of Rosina (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Cherubino (Le nozze di Figaro), Roßweiße (Die Walküre), and Lola (Cavalleria rusticana), among others. She also appeared in guest performances of the Vienna State Opera as Cherubino at the Elbphilharmonie, Hamburg and as Zerlina (Don Giovanni) at the Tonhalle Düsseldorf.
With Ensemble Matheus, led by Maestro Jean-Christophe Spinosi, Stoyanova made her role debut as Isabella in L’Italiana in Algeri.
In the summer of 2020 Stoyanova made her role debut as Angelina (La Cenerentola) at the New Generation Festival in Florence. Since then she has debuted at important opera houses and festivals, such as the Gyndebourne Festival, Theater an der Wien, Opernhaus Zürich, Rossini Opera Festival Pesaro, the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, and the Zurich Opera House. She is particularly associated with La Scala in Milan, where she has sung roles such as Rosina (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Cherubino (Le nozze di Figaro), Zulma (L'Italiana in Algeri) and Dryade (Ariadne auf Naxos).
Recent successes include La Cenerentola in Düsseldorf, Athens and Riga; Roméo et Juliette (Stéphano) at the Theater an der Wien and Opernhaus Zürich, and Sesto (Giulio Cesare) and Ruggiero (Alcina) at the Glyndebourne Festival.
In the current season she will sing her first Komponist (Ariadne auf Naxos) at the Teatr Wielki in Warsaw and can be heard as Wellunde (Das Rheingold) at the Teatro alla Scala, Milan.
