Baritone Szymon Komasa was born in Poznań, Poland. He began learning music by studying the cello at the age of 7, then graduated from the Karol Szymanowski State Music High School in Warsaw. He went on to attend classical vocal studies at the Grażyna and Kiejstut Bacewicz Academy of Music in Łódź, graduating with honours in 2009, followed by opera studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London and the Artist Diploma of Opera Singing Programme at the Julliard School of Music in New York under Edith Wiens.
He is the prizewinner of numerous international singing contests, including the Veronica Dunne International Singing Competition in Dublin (2011), Kosciuszko Foundation Marcella Sembrich International Voice Competition (2014), Ada Sari Vocal Artistry Competition in Nowy Sącz (2009).
His made his international stage debut in 2009 as Schaunard in La bohème at the Teatro Filharmonico/Arena di Verona in Verona. He gave lied recitals at Carnegie Hall (2012) and Wigmore Hall (2012). Apart from playing classical opera roles in operas by such composers as Mozart, Bellini, Donizetti or Verdi, Mr Komasa has successfully performed in works of such contemporary composers as Korine Fujiwara (The Flood) or Paweł Mykietyn (The Magic Mountain). Apart from singing, he enjoys cinema and acrobatics.
