Vasyl Solodkyy has established himself in recent years as one of the top talents on the European opera scene and reached the final of the 'BBC Cardiff Singer of the world' International Competition in 2023.
Born in Ternopil in Ukraine, he began studying piano at the age of seven. He moved to Italy in 2007 and continued his musical studies at the Istituto Musicale Lettimi in Rimini, before turning to singing, since 2017 under the guidance of soprano Valeria Esposito. In 2018, he was admitted to the Accademia Verdiana of the Teatro Regio in Parma.
The most important productions in which he took part include Musorgsky’s Boris Godunov with M° Riccardo Chailly for the season 2022-2023 opening of the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Uriel in Händel’s The creation conducted by M° Fabio Luisi for the opening night of the 47° Festival della Valle d'Itria in Martina Franca, Marin Faliero with M° Riccardo Frizza in Bergamo for Festival Donizetti 2020, Der fliegende Holländer in 2018 for the season opening of Teatro Petruzzelli di Bari under the baton of M° Giampaolo Bisanti.
The leading roles already debuted, Ismaele in Nabucco at Cologne Opera, Alfredo Germont in La traviata at Immling Festival, the title role in Edgar at Festival Puccini in Torre del Lago, Tom Rakewell in Igor Stravinsky’s The Rake's Progress and the title role on Idomeneo at Staatstheater Mainz, Nemorino in L’elisir d’amore, Ferrando in Così fan tutte, Fenton in Falstaff in Busseto for the Festival Verdi 2023.
Recent highlights are Cassio in Otello at New Israeli Opera Tel Aviv, Nabucco at Cologne Opera, Idomeneo in Mainz, Edgar at Festival Puccini in Torre del Lago, I masnadieri (concert version) in Mannheim, Verdi’s Messa da Requiem at Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome.
