Shoemakers
A production often requires over 100 pairs of shoes: for the singers – soloists and chorus members, dancers, and extras. All are tailor-made, according to the set or costume designer's concept. The opera house's shoemakers have even made shoes for animals. The shoemaker's shop is also where leather elements of costumes, such as belts or harnesses, are made. The shoemakers repair suitcases that serve as props and musical instrument cases for the orchestra.
