To mark the day, the Annual Ballet Gala will be held for the tenth time at the Silesian Opera in Bytom on the initiative of the Ludomir Różycki Ballet School. This year the event will welcome first soloists of the Polish National Ballet, Yuka Ebihara and Vladimir Yaroshenko. The pair will close the evening with a pas de deux from Don Quixote.
The International Dance Day is celebrated by the ballet world to honour the father of ballet theatre, great French choreographer and reformer of the art of dance, Jean-Georges Noverre (1727-1810), who was born on 29 April. The International Dance Day was introduced in 1982 by UNESCO on the initative of the Dance Committee of the International Theatre Institute, then chaired by the famous Russian choreographer Yuri Grigorovich.
