He received a preliminary proposal to that effect following the success of the premiere of his Iolanta / Bluebeard's Castle which took place at the New York opera house on 29 January 2015. For the 2016/17 season opening, Treliński will direct Wagner's music drama Tristan and Isolde. As the New York Times reports, the performance will be conducted by Sir Simon Rattle and the title roles will be sung by Nina Stemme (Isolde) and Stuart Skelton (Tristan). This will be a co-production involving the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden, the Teatr Wielki – Polish National Opera and the Metropolitan Opera.The premiere in Baden-Baden will take place in March while the Teatr Wielki – Polish National Opera's audience will see the production in June 2016.
