Our artists took part in the Ballet Asteras 2016 concert in Tokyo's New National Theatre on 31 July. Held each summer, the event showcases prominent Japanese soloists who come to perform at the prestigious venue from across the world accompanied by their stage partners. It is the second time Ms Ebihara has been invited to perform at the international gala: in 2013 she took to the stage alongside Vladimir Yaroshenko. This time round she was accompanied by Dawid Trzensimiech, who had recently partnered her on our stage in La Bayadère. However, in Tokyo the pair danced a contemporary pas de deux from Asphodel Meadows choreographed by Britain's Liam Scarlett and set to music from Francis Poulenc's Concerto in D minor.
Dawid Trzensimiech will stay in Japan a little longer to give a performance during the Artistic Ballet Gala at NHK Osaka Hall, to which he was invited beforehand. On 11 August he will dance alongside two different partners. With Mai Kono from Munich's Bayerisches Staatsballet he will dance Victor Gsovsky's impressive Grand pas classique set to Daniel Auber's music, then join Bianca Fota of the Ballet of the Romanian National Opera to perform a duet from Radio and Juliet by Edward Clug set to music by the rock band Radiohead.
