Dear Audience Members,
When announcing the 2023/24 season, we noted that the opening of Mariusz Treliński's production of Modest Mussorgsky's Boris Godunov was conditional on the ending of the war in Ukraine.
The war continues.
To ensure the smooth running of the theatre's operations, the Polish National Opera's leadership has made the decision to move the premiere to the following season (2024/25)
Instead, we will welcome back Mariusz Treliński's staging of Benjamin Britten's Peter Grimes under Michał Klauza, which will be performed on 5, 7, and 9 June 2024.
Following is premiere in June 2023, one critic described the production as "exquisite", praising the conductor for "successfully bringing out both the tragic and comic facet of the work" and Peter Weed (Grimes) for delivering a "devastating" performance that "highlighted the title character's ordinariness, despite his "otherness'". (Dorota Szwarcman, Co nam w duszy gra)
Writing for the Rzeczpospolita daily, Jacek Marczyński noted: "The success of the Polish National Opera's new production has a few fathers: apart from the director Mariusz Treliński, they are the conductor Michał Klauza and the outstanding British tenor Peter Wedd."
Thanks to the programme change, we will be able to offer you more performances of your favourite shows:

• Aida on 25, 26 May 2024
