Warsaw Can Be Loved
The Mazowsze Folk Song And Dance Ensemble
Mazowsze loves Warsaw. The city saw the band's first public performance (6 November 1950, Polski Theatre). It is also where Mazowsze's founders, Tadeusz Sygietyński and Mira Zimińska-Sygietyńska, worked. If it hadn't been for them, such popular Warsaw tunes as 'Jak przygoda to tylko w Warszawie' (Fancy an Adventure? Warsaw is the Place) or 'Warszawski dzień' (A Warsaw Day) wouldn't have been written. Only few know that in 1973 a collection of songs about Warsaw was released under the title 'Warszawa w piosenkach Mazowsza' (Warsaw in Mazowsze's Songs), the proceeds from which were used to contribute to the Royal Castle's renovation fund.
The concert's programme features Sygietyński's most popular Warsaw-themed pieces set to lyrics by Tuwim, Gałczyński, Słonimski, Dobrowolski, Starski, or Bartels. The band will perform in most beautiful costumes, e.g. dating back to the times of the Duchy of Warsaw (1807–1815), and treat the audience to masterly choreographies.
