World Orchestra
Concert
An extraordinary orchestra, extraordinary people, unusual instruments. Artists from Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas. Outstanding soloists from the world of jazz, classical music, ethno, folk and open improvisation. The sound of a symphonic orchestra is enriched here by such exotic instruments as the Armenian duduk, Bulgarian kaval, Moldavian dulcimer, Bashkirian kurai, lyre, harp, Finnish kantele, Zither and Tunisian udu. It is hard to label their music by just one term or adjust one of accepted classifications. It has many sources, often it goes back to the oldest roots. Each concert of the World Orchestra is a unique journey, and their music is termed as film/improvised. The premiere of the Lech, Czech and Rus Symphony, which we will hear in part one of the concert, took place in 2016 in the National Symphonic Orchestra of the Polish Radio Philharmonic Hall in Katowice, in occasion of the 1050th anniversary of the Christianization of Poland. It will sound on the stages of the Polish National Opera for the second time. Grzech Piotrowski, World Orchestra’s initiator, borrowed the symphony’s title from a legend about the three brothers who founded three Slavic nations. The premiere performance of the second symphony will also be an exceptional event. The composer called it Stu (The Hundred) and wrote it in occasion of the centenary of regaining independence by Poland. A hundred remarkable artists from various parts of the world will appear on the stage of Teatr Wielki – Polish National Opera. World Orchestra, as always, will defy any attempts at pigeonholing.
