Hey, white eagle, the history's darkness has lifted,
Fly, you splendid one, soar up high,
Over the fields of glory, over the clouds in the sky,
Over the whole world, far and wide.

These are the opening lines of the battle hymn for the Polish Army written and composed by Ignacy Jan Paderewski. It will be one of the highlights of a special concert to be given by the Opera Academy to commemorate the centenary of the recovery of the Polish independence on 15 November and the last event of the Teatr Wielki's Autumn with Paderewski. Also on the programme: other songs and chamber piano pieces by Paderewski. The concept has been devised by Eytan Pessen, the Academy's teacher.
