Youth Spirit of Dance
Polish-Japanese dance project
Youth Spirit of Dance is a Polish-Japanese project which was originally given its debut in September 2017. A success at home, the show has also been noticed on the international scene. It premiered in Japan in 2018. It was also a part of the programme of celebrations marking the centenary of the recovery of Polish independence in 2018. This year’s edition is dedicated to the centenary of the Poland-Japan diplomatic relations.
Devised by well-known Polish choreographers and danced to music by Polish composers, the project features fifty young Polish and Japanese dancers, including finalists of Young Dancer of the Year 2019, Prix de Lausanne, and Youth American Grand Prix, presenting Polish folk and national dances using a variety of techniques, ranging from classical dance to tap-dance. Their performance is set against Janusz Marchewa’s video images showcasing the young performers getting ready to go on stage.
Accompanying the dancers is a forty-person strong brass band of the Fryderyk Chopin School of Music in Olsztyn, Poland under Janusz Ciepliński.
