Art workshops:
Costumes in Moniuszko's Operas
Led by Kamil Niedziałek, a musician, performer, art educator, and a collaborator of the ducational depatmernt of the Zachęta gallery
What are costumes and do you wear them on a day to day basis? Definitely not, but did you know that they are used in every theatre performance, ballet, or opera, such as Stanisław Moniuszko's Halka, one of the most important Polish operas ever? Moniuszko was an extraordinary composer who wrote over 250 songs and more than a dozen of operas, operettas, and ballets. He was also a polyglot, a father of ten, and a man whose face was featured on a Polish banknote. He travelled a great deal and so did his operas: Halka has recently ended up in Haiti, while its recording found its way to Venice to represent Poland at a very famous Art Biennale. We are also going to set out on journey to explore the life of Moniuszko and watch fragments of his operas, paying special attention to the costumes. Finally, inspired by his operas, we will design and make our own extraordinary outfits.
The workshops are led by Kamil Niedziałek, a musician, performer, art educator, and a collaborator of the ducational depatmernt of the Zachęta gallery.
