Sinfonia Varsovia
Concert
Sinfonia Varsovia marks yet another birthday on the stage of the Polish National Opera. This year’s anniversary concert will be led by prominent Polish conductor Marek Janowski. Two years ago Maestro marked his birthday with Sinfonia Varsovia during the Witold Lutosławski Chain Festival. This September he will take to the stage of the Polish National Opera alongside the orchestra musicians to celebrate the flagship ensemble of his hometown of Warsaw.
The birthday concert is a real treat for the lovers of symphony music. The programme features works by two great German masters beloved by the orchestra and the conductor alike. Both pieces have been performed by the ensemble on many occasions and recorded them under the baton of the likes of Jerzy Maksymiuk (1988), Yehudi Menuhin (1995), Jan Krenz (1996), and Jerzy Semkow (2011).
While Beethoven’s Symphony No. 4 is full of lyricism and subtle humour, Brahms’s 4th brims with tension and has a spectacular ending. Combined together they are sure to evoke a full spectrum of musical emotions in the listeners.
Written in 1806 after the revolutionary Eroica and before the dramatic Fifth Symphony, Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 4 is considered as the one that evokes harmony and delightful feeling of tranquility.
In his fourth and final confrontation with the symphonic form, Brahms reached the height of his skill. In the spirit of Beethoven, Brahms proved that artistic restraint can produce extraordinary, moving music. Each of the four movements is based on a series of simple introductory motifs that culminate in the last movement, which is famously written in the form of passacaglia.
