Ara Malikian is a Spanish violinist of Lebanese and Armenian descent. His talent was discovered at a young age despite the circumstances forced upon him by the Lebanese Civil War, such as studying for extended period of time in bomb shelters. He gave his first big concert at the age of 12. Two years later he was heard by conductor Hans Herbert-Jöris, who subsequently awarded him a German government scholarship to study at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hannover. He then went on to study at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London and received lessons from some of the most prominent professors in the world.
In 2015 he released an album in a nod to his fifteen years in Spain, with great collaborations at the Teatro Real in Madrid. The 15 tour, one of the largest in recent years, was a success with the public and the critics, spanning over 150 concerts and attracting over 175,000 people. With his following album The Incredible History of Violin, he presented another world tour including concerts in the most prestigious auditoriums and theatres in the world: London, Paris, Rome, Moscow, Buenos Aires, Mexico City, Lima, Santiago de Chile, Beijing, Hong Kong, Istanbul, Belgrade, Bratislava, Madrid, Lisbon, and Berlin. In 2019 his new Royal Garage world tour began with the release of his latest album Royal Garage, which featured collaborations from artists such as Andrés Calamaro, Enrique Bunbury, and Serj Tankian. As a result of the pandemic and the previous Royal Garage tour, his latest Petit Garage tour was transformed into a piano and violin show for more limited capacity venues. The different atmosphere also transpired into the music and the public. It is a unique, intimate concert that takes the audience from the Dubai Opera to Michoacán in Mexico, to Carnegie Hall, to the Royal Palace of Madrid, among others.
