Jean Giraudoux's Electra: A Dramatic Reading
A special event
To mark the Year of Edmund and Maria Wierciński, the Theatre Museum, Warsaw’s Polski Theatre, and the Institute of Art of the Polish Academy of Sciences join forces to commemorate the legendary Polish premiere of Jean Giraudoux’s Electra. Directed by Edmund Wierciński and designed by Teresa Roszkowska, the production inaugurated the Poetic Stage of the Polish Armed Forces Theatre in Łódź in 1946, months after the ened of World War II.
The dramatic reading of excerpts from the play, translated by Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz, adapted by Anna Skuratowicz and designed by Jolanta Gałązka, will be performed by actors of the Polski Theatre in Warsaw: Ewa Domańska, Marta Kurzak, Marta Wiejak, Adam Biedrzycki, Tomasz Błasiak, Sławomir Głazek, and Dominik Łoś. It will feature the voices of Dorota Bzdyla, Katarzyna Lis, and Marta Alaborska, and live music performed by Wojciech Błażejczyk.
The performance will be followed by the presentation of the Teresa Roszkowska Award, an accolade awarded since 1997 by the Polish Section of the International Theatre Institute (ITI) and the Leon Schiller Foundation in Warsaw to emerging set designers.
