Fabio Antoci was born in Ragusa in 1974. After his technical and musical training, he began working with the Iarba Group (Circuito Teatrale Siciliano) and director Nino Romeo, touring various Italian theaters and festivals. In 2002 he enrolled in a theater technology school in Berlin, specializing in lighting design. In 2004 he began working as lighting designer at the Semperoper in Dresden, and since 2011 he has been head of the lighting, sound, and video department. There, he has designed the lighting for over fifty new opera and ballet productions.
As a guest artist, he has worked with, among others, the Dresdner Musikfestspiele, Les Ballets Bubeníček, the Teatro Massimo in Palermo, the Theater an der Wien, the Graz Opera, the Finnish National Opera and Ballet in Helsinki, the Theater Basel, the Salzburg Easter Festival, the Bunka Kaikan in Tokyo, the Aalto Theatre in Essen, the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía in Valencia, the Staatstheater Nürnberg in Nuremberg, and the San Francisco Opera.
Upcoming projects include Un ballo in maschera (October 2026, Semperoper) and Faust (October 2026, La Scala, Milan).
