Karolina Sofulak studied Western European culture and languages at the University of Warsaw as well as opera and music theatre directing at the Ludwik Solski Academy for the Dramatic Arts in Kraków. She worked as directing assistant to Mariusz Treliński, Davaid Alden and Keith Warner at the Teatr Wielki – Polish National Opera. She has been collaborating with Christopher Alden since 2011. She acted as assistant director and revivals' director for Opera North, Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe, Grange Park Opera, Chemnitz Opera, Teatro Regio di Torino, Opéra National de Bordeaux, Opéra de Dijon, Oper Wuppertal, and the English National Opera. In 2011 she made her directing debut with La Traviata at the Baltic Opera. She directed productions for the Brighton Early Music Festival (Breaking the Rules), the Monteverdi Festival in Venice, and the London Festival of Baroque Music (Combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda). Upcoming engagements include Rameau’s Pygmalion at the London Stroud Green Festival and Cavalleria rusticana at Opera North.
