A graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków, Katarzyna Borkowska is an award-winning artist with over 20-years of experience under her belt. She designs sets, costumes and lighting for leading Polish and international theatre companies, collaborating with the best stage directors of the last two decades, including Maja Kleczewska, Michał Borczuch, Ewelina Marciniak, or Wojciech Faruga.
In 2019 she directed and designed a production of Mozart's Don Giovanni for the Theater Freiburg, Germany.
Her accolades include an award of the 15th Boska Komedia Theatre Festival for the sets and lighting for Dziady at the Słowacki Theatre, Kraków (2022), award of the Scena w Budowie Set and Costume Design Festival for the sets and costumes for Pokora (Śląski Theatre) and Tysiąc nocy i jedna. Szeherezada 1979 (Słowackiego Theatre, Kraków). Her set, costume and lighting designs for Wojciech Faruga's Szeherezada also earned her an award at the 27th Contemporary Polish Play Staging Awards.
Previously, she received an award for the set, costume and lighting design for Ewelina Marciniak's production of Death and the Maiden at the 36th Warsaw Theatre Meetings and a Golden Mask for the set design for Maja Kleczewska's staging of Götterdämmerung. She is also the recipient of the Leon Schiller Prize for outstanding artistic achievements in set design.
