Natalia Kitamikado is a Polish-Japanese designer whose practice ranges from product design to scenography and costume design in opera, theatre and dance. After studies in Ecole Nationale Superieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris and Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw she assisted renowned set designer Boris Kudlička on Bluebeard’s Castle, Tristan und Isolde, Salome, Powder Her Face (directed by Mariusz Treliński), Elektra (directed by Keith Warner), Norma (directed by Tomo Sugao), staged at the Metropolitan Opera, New York, La Monnaie, Brussels, Polish National Opera, National Theatre Prague, San Francisco Opera, and more. She made her solo debut in 2015 designing Barbara Wiśniewska’s production of Tennessee Williams’s Baby Doll at the Studio Theatre, Warsaw. Recent set and costume design credits include Cosi fan tutte directed by Jerzy Stuhr, Kraków Opera; Bajazet directed by Krystian Lada, Theater an der Wien; Lolita directed by Slava Daubnerova, Mariinsky Theatre, St. Petersburg; Love for Three Oranges directed by Radim Vizvary, National Theatre Prague; an open-air production of Nabucco directed by Krystian Lada, Wrocław Opera; The Bravest of Knights directed by Tomasz Cyz for the Wrocław Opera. In parallel, she works on experimental opera and dance projects with emerging artists and festivals, such as Nuit Blanche, Katarzyna Głowicka or Bartosz Zyśk. Together with Krystian Lada and Didzis Jaunzems, she won the prestigious RingAward in 2020.
